Micah Mission

the Micah 6:8 mission:

DO JUSTICE:

When people are mistreated, extorted and abused by those who are stronger and more powerful, that is injustice. The Bible speaks very strongly about God’s feelings regarding injustice but God speaks just as strongly against those who allow injustice.

Being an advocate means that we give voice to those who are oppressed. When we as Christians are bearers of justice, we are co-laboring with God to further bring the Kingdom to Earth. When justice is served, people begin to see a glimpse of their worth in God’s eyes, softening their hearts to the drawing of the Spirit of God.

Pulling a drowning person out of the river is kindness. If it keeps happening, and drowning people keep floating down the river to you, you have to ask who is throwing them into the river. Doing something about that is justice. ~Brian McLaren paraphrase

In a small world context – feeding a hungry person is kindness, when he comes back to be fed, doing something about the source of his hunger is justice.

We at Revolution, are passionate about issues of justice including racial reconciliation, addressing religious persecution (specifically standing in solidarity with the persecuted Church), the global AIDS crisis, extreme poverty and caring for the needy and disenfranchised in our community.

To that end, we participate in awareness and service campaigns and encourage everyone who attends Revolution to be involved in those things that speak the heart of God. Local service projects, international missions and intentional relationships outside the walls of the church are all ways to echo the heartbeats of God.

LOVE KINDNESS/MERCY:

Kindness and mercy speaks of our direct relationships and interactions with God’s Creation (both human and environmental).

We must bring Christ to the world by living lives of extravagant love, generosity and peace – not judgment, condemnation and self righteousness.

Reconciliation and restoration of relationships to God and each other to live the Kingdom is central to our faith.

In the words of theologian Scot McKnight, the Gospel is

“the work of the triune God to create a community in which cracked Eikons (fallen humans) are restored through the life, death, resurrection of Christ and Pentecost, so they will be in union with God and communion with one another for the good of others and the world.”

There are many things that encompass what that means in a practical sense and the possibilities are endless but we feel it essentially boils down to restoration of relationships with others in the church (both our local body and the Body universal) and those outside the church by living peaceably in love and kindness even in the face of seemingly insurmountable differences and opposition.

We also believe we are to be vessels of restoration in our interactions with the rest of God’s creation – the environment.

“the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1a) and “the land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants” (Leviticus 25:23b).

we affirm that “through him (the Word) all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” (John 1:3), and that “in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17b). “God’s signature is on the whole of nature. All creatures are love letters from God to us.”

WALK HUMBLY WITH GOD:

Walking humbly with God is the greatest and most fulfilling challenge of the Christian life. Making disciples is essentially, in our opinion, about this very thing…being in relationship with others to learn to better fuse life and faith to walk humbly with God in the world in which we live.

All of our goals and missions in our own lives as individual Christians emerge from this foundation of living a whole life faith with God instead of one that is fragmented by dualism.

Not only do we seek reconciliation of relationships and restoration of justice on this earth but we seek to do so by using our spiritual gifts and proclaiming the truth of Christ in a contextual and culturally relevant way. We believe the Holy Spirit manifests himself today in ways that best communicate both God’s love and God’s power in a variety of ways in a variety of contexts. Our role is to hear the voice of God to be obedient so that His will is done on earth as it is in heaven.
